Charging an electric car without an app: How it works at Turmstrom charging stations
Download an app, create an account, set a password and possibly even enter payment details: anyone who simply wants to charge their electric car while on the road may first have to work through several steps with some providers.
At Turmstrom charging stations, it also works without an app and without prior registration. The principle is similar to conventional refuelling: drive up, connect the vehicle, select a payment method and start the charging process.

At Turmstrom charging stations, you can charge your electric car without an app, subscription or customer account. Depending on the location, three payment options are available:

Card Payment & Mobile Payment
At equipped charging stations, you can pay directly at the card terminal—using a credit or debit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay.

QR code
Scan the QR code on the charging station using your smartphone camera. You will automatically be redirected to a payment page. No app installation is required.

Charging card
The AUSTROCARD, SMATRICS Card and charging cards from our roaming partners are also accepted.
Here's how charging works without an app
The process is very similar to other charging sessions: Pull up to the appropriate charging station and connect your vehicle with the charging cable. Depending on the station, you may need to unlock the charging point first and then plug in your vehicle.
- Unlock the charging point—using your credit or debit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay at the terminal, via the QR code, or with an accepted charging card.
- Start the charging process. The cable remains securely locked in place while charging.
- End the charging process using the same payment method or access you used to start it. For example, hold the same credit card up to the terminal again or use the same charging card.
- Unplug the charging cable and continue your journey.
Who should use app-free shopping
Not everyone who uses a public charging station wants to set up a permanent customer account. Direct payment is especially convenient on longer trips, with a rental car or while on vacation.
There’s no base fee or subscription – you simply pay for the electricity you charge at the price displayed in advance. And there’s no need for an extra app or another password to remember.
Plug & Charge
At our locations equipped with Alpitronic charging stations, you can also charge your electric car very easily using Plug & Charge. To do so, your vehicle must support Plug & Charge, and a compatible, active charging plan must be set up in the vehicle.
Once everything is set up, all you have to do is connect your vehicle to the charging station. The vehicle and charging station automatically recognize each other, authentication takes place in the background, and the charging process begins. No additional authorization via app, QR code, debit card, or credit card is required. This makes charging even more straightforward.
Charging while shopping or taking a break
Turmstrom fast-charging stations are located at select Turmöl locations. Depending on the station, you can use the charging time to run errands, grab a coffee, or get your car washed.
